YEAR
9
ENROLMENTS
will be taken at the various primary schools in the
district. Each Primary Principal will be asked to notify
parents of the date and time of enrolments. Parents
are urged to attend in person at the time set down.
Later enrolments may be made at the High School itself.
An Open Day is held in late July to allow parents to
visit the school and see the facilities that are available.
Late in term 4, an Orientation Day is held for all new
entrants to experience lessons in a secondary setting.
Details of arrangements will be communicated later through
contributing schools and the press.
LENGTH
OF STAY AT SCHOOL
The Law makes
it compulsory for every child to remain at school until
his or her 16th birthday. It is critical for all students
to gain as many qualifications as they can while at
school. These provide the foundation for future study
and for entry into the work force.
ADULT
STUDENTS
Adults, as
day students, are now a significant group in most secondary
schools. A return to formal study offers an opportunity
to improve qualifications and increase job opportunities,
besides of course, providing considerable intellectual
stimulation and valuable social contact. Tuition is
free. Please contact the Principal if you are interested.
Phone (06) 756 8148.
Students
will find themselves in many different groups from time
to time.
FORM CLASSES
The school is
divided into vertical form classes comprised of students
of all ages from all levels. This is so that students
can give and receive support from others. These form
classes are arranged into three Whanau. New students
on arrival will be allocated one of these Whanau forms.
The forms meet each day for roll check, and the Whanau
as a whole meets once a week.
CLASSES
In Year 9 &
10 students are allocated to a class which remains together
for all the core subjects. At each level the more academic
are placed in one class. The other classes have an even
spread of academic ability.
In the senior
school- that is year 11, 12 & 13, and in option
subjects at year 9 & 10 the subjects the students
elect to take determine the class composition.
