School overview

The school was opened in 1957 in response to the community need for a local high school. It proudly celebrated its 50th Jubilee in 2007. It serves the families which live in Inglewood and the surrounding rural community.

The college is a state, co-educational secondary school for students in years 9 to 13. We also provide Technology education to year 7 and 8 students from local primary schools. Some students travel from outside this area, for which there are regular bus services.

Part of the special character of this school is its connection with the community. There is a large base of support from parents, community people and local businesses, all who support student activities in many ways.

A broad curriculum is offered which covers all learning areas of the National Curriculum: English and Te Reo International Languages Mathematics Science Technology Social Sciences The Arts Health and Physical Education Students are prepared for national qualifications at all senior levels.

The Learning Support Centre offers Aassistance to students who have special learning needs.

Opportunities for gifted and talented students are offered through curriculum and co-curriculum programmes.

Students in year 9 study a full range of subjects. As they move through the school they are able to specialise in the subjects of their choice (see insert for courses at each level).

Some subjects at the senior level include work experience components and students may choose introductory tertiary courses in a range of areas. STAR and Gateway programmes operate through the school.
