Teachers as Leaders

'Teachers as Leaders' Professional Development seminars and workshops are an original concept developed by Inglewood High School staff as a means of

  • building staff relationships
  • sharing in-house expertise and innovation
  • encouraging leadership
  • providing a supportive environment to develop presentation skills

(<- example of ideas up for discussion)

People are not defined by the job they do...so a teacher should not be seen as just the subject matter they teach.

Instead, teachers/tutors are people with their own personal experiences and knowledge as well as other skills that may be under-utilised or undiscovered.

For a list of workshops and seminars go to the PD workshops page...

Format: The 'Teachers as Leaders' programme is an informal opportunity to share over lunch our experiences in teaching and learning.

These are really only 'taster' sessions limited to a 10 minute presentation, followed by discussions of the realities of implementing change at Inglewood High School.

Presentations do NOT have to involve using ICT such as PowerPoint slide shows. A good story told well is just as powerful!

Why: Research as well as common sense justify this approach:

  • Institutions that provide staff with opportunities for in-house self-directed professional development raise performance levels and build better staff relationships.
  • Individuals or Departments get an opportunity to discover 'hidden' talent and skills among existing staff.
  • Departments or individuals can ask for longer workshops or sessions at a later date on topics they have had a sneak preview of.

Who: All staff are welcome to attend any or all sessions on a casual basis. There are no minimum numbers required.

When: Fortnightly each Thursday in room 10. 1:40pm prompt start (gives you time to grab a cuppa!)
